Scored winning run on an Irish throwing error in bottom of ninth at Victory Field

Whew! One of those days when you'd rather be lucky than good. Needed every one of ND's five errors to pull this one out, despite almost total futility at the bat.

Can only hope that this somehow jolts the Hoosiers back onto the winning side of the ledger.

IU is still not hitting the ball well as they had only 5 hits in the game; but, I'll take it. This team needed something positive to happen and maybe this will get them going again.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A Victory Field crowd of 8,728 heavy with colors of crimson and cream couldn't have asked for a better finish. Neither could the Indiana Hoosiers, who rallied from a 5-3 ninth-inning deficit for a 6-5 walk-off win vs. No. 26 Notre Dame on Tuesday evening in Indianapolis.

Brad Hartong and Scott Donley singled and Logan Sowers walked to load the bases with zero outs in the bottom of the ninth, setting up a dramatic finish.

After Austin Cangelosi struck out swinging, Will Nolden hit a ball to shortstop where the Fighting Irish put Sowers out at second and went for the double play at first. A throwing error allowed Nolden to advance to second and Donley to score the tying run after Chris Sujka, who pinch ran for Hartong, scored IU's fourth run.

With Nolden on second and two outs, freshman Isaiah Pasteur stepped up to the plate, setting up Notre Dame's second consecutive throwing error. Pasteur smacked the ball to Notre Dame shortstop Lane Richards, who overthrew first base, allowing Pasteur to reach safely and Nolden to score the winning run.

IU's fifth walk-off win of the season was its seventh against a ranked opponent in 2015. Most importantly, it snapped a four-game skid and gave the Hoosiers momentum heading into a weekend at home vs. Michigan State.

Indiana struck out 12, including five from starting RHP Evan Bell, who recovered after a rocky first inning.

Following Notre Dame's three runs in the first inning, Bell retired 12 consecutive batters, keeping the Fighting Irish from putting another man on base until a two-out triple in the fifth inning.

Notre Dame added solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings, but Indiana stayed within striking distance.

Nolden, who scored the sixth and final run, registered a RBI single in the bottom of the second, while Pasteur recorded a fielder's choice RBI to put IU's first two runs on the board.

Indiana also scored in the sixth after Casey Rodrigue, who doubled to lead off the frame, came home on Hartong's groundout to shortstop, pulling within a 4-3 score.
